Authorities show poor performance in addressing gender violence in Sinaloa
Some groups pointed out that the state and municipal governments have ignored the Alert on Gender Violence against Women.
More than five years have passed since the Gender Violence Alert against Women (AVGM) was decreed in Sinaloa, however, the state and municipal articulation has not been enough because there are more omissions in its compliance.
Rocío Arely Avendaño Gálvez, president of the Sinaloan Active Women's Collective (C'MAS) pointed out: "With concern we see that the cases of femicide are increasing. We have figures that are sometimes down, sometimes up; however, the cruelty, the feat and the context converge so that each case is pitiful," she declared.
Similarly, she commented that of the 20 murders of women that have been registered so far this year, only 15 are being investigated as femicide. This despite the fact that every death of a woman, through violence, is femicide until proven otherwise.
Personal opinion
It is wtih great anger and frustation that I read these lines because it not only shows the reality of the region, but the whole country. I can say that all the political parties in Mexico make their campaings based in empty promises and sadly, who pays for the lack of attention in these matters is people and in this case specificaly: women.
Is for this kind of acts of corruption and deviation of attention in less important "issues" that the region and the country will not progress towards being a competitive nation, and the reason why at the end we will remain stuck in the cathegory of "developing country".
